Matthias Waechter is Director General of the Centre international de formation européenne (CIFE).
He studied History and Philosophy in Bonn, Freiburg, Paris and Rochester (New York). He received his PhD in 1994 and his ” Habilitation “ in 2004. Between 1993 and 2000, he was Assistant Professor at the Department of History of the University of Freiburg. He joined CIFE in 2000, first as DAAD visiting lecturer and since 2005 as Director of the Institut européen. He is a specialist in U.S. history, contemporary France, Franco-German relations and European integration.
