Title: Dynamics of Chinese tourism through travel magazines
The media that inspire tourists and fuel their desire to travel have always been closely linked to tourism. Travel magazines, a specific medium, play an essential role in the development of tourism. In China, tourists considered magazines to be one of the three most important sources of information influencing their decisions on where to visit. Nevertheless, the links between travel magazines and the development of Chinese tourism have received little attention from social science researchers.
In this interdisciplinary study, which integrates the perspectives of geography, media, history and literature, we first consider historical research on Chinese travel magazines from the 1920s to the present day, looking at them both as a form of print media and as a cultural phenomenon. We will then carry out an in-depth analysis of the content of representative magazines, with the aim of identifying and analysing the dynamics of the Chinese places, practices and outlooks reflected in them.
